At this interactive drumming hoot for seniors, you’ll get your heart and hands around BOB BLOOM’S colorful array of lovable bongo, conga, and djembe drums. And, please feel free to bring your favorite drum.

Everyone in the room jumps into the music with Bob as he launches legendary songs with rocking melodies and gratifying beats from artists including The Beatles, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Chuck Berry, and The Grateful Dead.

In addition to senior centers and community centers throughout New England, Bob's participatory drumming has sparkled at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, The New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and the “First Night” celebrations in Hartford, Bridgeport, Westport, Worcester, Providence, and Boston.

For eighteen years, he served as a Faculty Assistant to the late Dr. Babatunde Olatunji for his “Language of the Drums” courses at The Omega Institute, Rowe Conference Center, and Kripalu Institute for Yoga and Health. He performed as a drummer and singer in Olatunji’s renowned, African music and dance company, “Drums Of Passion” at venues including: Lincoln Center; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; New York Towne Hall; the Philadelphia Museum; the Washington Monument; Jorgenson Center for the Performing Arts.

At this hoot, first-time drummers and those with seasoning drumrollick together.  From 2007 to 2010, Bob Bloom was chair of the Interactive Drumming Committee of The Percussive Arts Society, the largest percussion organization in the world.

For nearly two decades, he served as a faculty assistant to Dr. Babatunde Olatunji for his “Language of the Drums” courses at The Omega Institute, Rowe Conference Center, and Kripalu Institute for Yoga and Health.

BB drummed and sang as a performance member of Olatunji’s internationally-renowned African music and dance company,  “Drums of Passion” in concerts at venues including Lincoln Center, The Washington Monument, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Jorgenson Hall.

Through Olatunji’s music philosophy, “Unity of Purpose”, you'll float wherever your thoughts take you rhythmic-ally, melodic-ally, harmonic-ally, beat-ally, lyric-ally, and movement-ally.

It is an honor and privilege to have such a talented and award-winning dancer lead this monthly dance experience with us. The Social Dance Series will be offered on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Bring your dancing shoes!

Enjoy a lovely evening out social ballroom dancing. Each month will feature a beginner ballroom dance lesson. Have you ever wanted to learn Cha Cha, Swing, Waltz or Fox Trot? Learn the basics or practice some new moves, or lend your skills to expand our dance community. All levels welcome.  Partner not required.

After the lesson stay or join us for a fun social dance to all your favorite ballroom hits. Viennese Waltz to West Coast Swing and everything in between. Social dancing is a beautiful evening out socializing and dancing with friends to great music. Save me a dance!

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Kelly Madenjian is a  Social Ballroom Dance, Fitness and Yoga instructor.  She is 7 time USA Dance National Ballroom Rhythm and American Nine Dance Champion. Kelly enjoys being an adjunct professor at Eastern Ct State Univ in the Athletics Depart. She has designed and teaches Salsa Fit, a cardio dance workout class and Dance Your Yoga Flow, a vinyasa power flow to music infused with classical dance training techniques. Kelly also does community adult and children’s theater as an actress, choreographer and director. She most recently has added film and commercial appearances to her credits.
