The Packing House Poetry Series (3rd Thursday of the month)

FREE ADMISSION

(DONATIONS GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTED)

Steve Veilleux

The Season’s final session of The Packing House Poetry Series on May 16th will feature the work of program facilitator and Poet Laureate of Thompson, CT, Steve Veilleux.

The show’s format will consist of two open mic segments as well as a segment for the featured artist. Intermission will give audience and poet the chance to meet one another and the opportunity to purchase signed publications.

The open-mic segments will provide the opportunity for audience members to read their own original work. We are planning to allow for two half-hour sessions, one at the beginning of the event, and the other at the end. Readers will be given up to five minutes to present, and we will have a signup sheet.

FEATURED WRITER

Thompson’s first poet laureate, Steve Veilleux paints with a surreal paintbrush, combining partial and recombined parcels of images into his kaleidoscopic montages. It is the unexpected combinations that often bring his images to life, that certain intangible hook that leads the viewer to consider what is lurking within the piece - and further, to force the viewer to consider what lies within his own psyche.

This event will feature Steve Veilleux reading from his screen play, “Breckenridge County”

This multi-media presentation is not to be missed, as Steve Veilleux seems to be channeling a midwestern farmer from the 1940s heartland, giving his audience a glimpse of life in the early 20th century in this no-holds-barred display of life and death and beyond.

Writers who are interested in featuring should reach out to either Steve Veilleux (Veilleuxs50@gmail.com) or Tom Buccino (518-791-9474).

FEATURED WRITERS

ROBERT EUGENE PERRY is a native of Massachusetts and the author of five books. His most recent book of poetry Earthsongs, was published by Human Error Publishing in 2022. He has had several poems published in Worcester Magazine, as well as Poetica Magazine’s Mizmor Anthology, NatureCulture’s Honoring Nature collection, National Beat Poetry Foundation & Friends Remembering Jack Kerouac on his 100th Birthday, and Soul-Lit: a journal of spiritual poetry. His short story In the Company of Trees was published by Wordpeace Journal. As a metaphysical poet, he finds inspiration in nature and endeavors to draw connections between our higher selves and the natural world.

PAUL SZLOSEK is a poet born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, but currently residing in the nearby metropolis of Worcester. The recipient of the 2023 Stanley Kunitz Medal as well as the Jacob Knight Award for Poetry in 2001, he was co-founder and host of the long-running Poet’s Parlor poetry reading in Southbridge and Sturbridge. In May 2019, Paul started a brand new open mic and featured poetry reading series with poet Ron Whittle, called The Poetorium at Starlite (also in Southbridge). When COVID closed the venue for 2 years, Paul ran an online print version entitled The Virtual Poetorium. His poems have appeared in various local & national print & online publications including The Worcester Review, Worcester Magazine, Radius, Sahara, Concrete Wolf, Soul-Lit, and Diner. He’s probably best known in the Central Massachusetts poetry community for his fanatical obsession with obscure poetry forms, and has invented his own including the ziggurat, the streetbeatina, the hodgenelle, the lux, and the singsangsong.

The Packing House Poetry Series

The Packing House Poetry Series (3rd Thursday of the month)

FREE ADMISSION

(DONATIONS GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTED)

Special Note: EC-CHAP is excited to present a new spoken word offering, “The Packing House Poetry Series” - coordinated and managed by regional author Steve Veilleux! Veilleux currently cohosts a monthly open mic event at the Sawdust Cafe in Putnam, and looks forward to the opportunity to feature well-known writers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and as far away is North Carolina in a monthly event to be held on the third Thursday of each month starting at 6:30 PM.

Steve Veilleux

The inaugural show of The Packing House Poetry Series will be held on September 21, and will feature Massachusetts Beat Poet for Life, Paul Richmond, and relative newcomer Alana Parrott, who brings her dynamic voice and personality to the stage.

The show’s format will consist of two open mic segments as well as a pair of 15-minute slots for each of the featured artists.

FEATURED WRITERS

PAUL RICHMOND was awarded Beat Poet Laureate three times. He is best described as political, deadpan and wryly humorous delivered in his own style. He has been called, “Assassin of Apathy” He has performed nationally and internationally. He created the project “Do It Now.” He is also a publisher of over 55 writers and has 7 books himself.

ALANA PARROTT is a newly emerging creatrix and performer. After studying Theatre (with a focus in acting and directing) at the University of Rhode Island for the last four years, she provides her audiences with a unique grander than life expression and heart that compliments her provocatively powerful poetry and creates a truly moving experience for all who bare witness. A Massachusetts native destined for greatness, she currently resides in Woonsocket Rhode Island.

Writers who are interested in featuring should reach out to either Steve Veilleux (Veilleuxs50@gmail.com) or Tom Buccino (518-791-9474).

The fall series still has one opening, and there are still a number of openings through May 2024.
