The Kingpins

Founded in 2002 by guitarist Ben Chovnick and singer Scott Fairbanks, The Kingpins have been carrying on the tradition, swinging and rocking the blues to all of our friends in greater Eastern Connecticut. We have performed in clubs and restaurants, played at festivals and private parties all over the region. It is our mission to help carry on the legacy of the founders of this very important American roots music genre.

We are looking forward to playing for you all at the Packing House!

Ryan Hartt & The Blue Hearts

Ryan Hartt is a dynamic harmonica player, vocalist, and songwriter whose sound bridges the grit of traditional blues with the energy of modern roots music. Known for his fiery stage presence and deep command of tone and phrasing, Hartt has built a reputation as one of New England’s most soulful and expressive blues artists.

Fronting Ryan Hartt & The Blue Hearts for over two decades, Hartt has toured extensively across the U.S., sharing stages with harmonica icons such as Rod Piazza, Rick Estrin and Mark Hummel. His performances blend Chicago-style grooves, West Coast swing, and his own sharp songwriting sensibility, earning praise for their authenticity and infectious energy.

In 2025, Ryan released his solo debut, Be About It!, a record that showcases his growth as both a storyteller and musician. The album captures Hartt’s lifelong dedication to the traditional Blues while simultaneously being fresh and contemporary. Be About It! won Best Self Produced CD at the Blues Foundation’s 2026 International Blues Challenge.

Whether on stage or in the studio, Ryan Hartt plays with the conviction of a true believer in the power of American roots music: raw, heartfelt, and real.

EC-CHAP Special Program: The Patty Tuite Band (Blues/Indie)

Special Note: We are excited to have The Patty Tuite Band return to The Packing House this season! This local/regional band with award winning musician, Patty Tuite at the helm, has been turning heads in our area with a blues vibe that just doesn’t quit. It’s a pleasure to have these exceptional artists grace our stage!

PATTY TUITE is a singer/songwriter who embraces the genre of blues, jazz and rock music. Patty started at a young age listening to her mom’s piano playing of hymns, musicals and Boogie Woogie and began playing piano before the age of 5.  Patty began playing guitar at 17 years old focusing on fingerpicking and rhythm and learning Folk music and singing.

Patty played with and led numerous bands and ensembles since those early days,honing her chops in the blues, jazz, and rock arena. The rest is history!

When Covid lockdown requirements started, Patty continued writing new songs and started “back-yard” practices in the summer of 2020 performing the new material and sharing videos with her fan base. This was the group that then went into the studio in December 2020-January 2021 to complete the new music for Patty Tuite “Consider This.” The recording features a fantastic array of new material all written and composed by Patty. Produced by Grammy award winner Paul Nelson, who also plays electric, slide and acoustic guitar on the album, to the excited expectations of her ever growing, world-wide fan base.

“Consider This” has been featured in numerous magazine reviews, including “Making a Scene,” Blues in The South and charting for 6 weeks on Roots Music Reports top contemporary blues albums as well as charting # 171 for 2021.   “Consider This” also charted on the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association’s top 40 in the UK.  In 2022 Patty went back into the The Music Room, West Yarmouth's studios and worked again with Grammy Award winner PAUL NELSON to create her latest recording, "Hard Case Of The Blues". It features Grammy Award winner BOBBY RUSH as well as many other notables in the music industry.  This album received praise from Frank Rozack, Gold and Platinum Manager and now Patty's publicist, who stated, "Wonderful album.  What’s to say? Just fantastic, fabulous."  It has gone on to chart on Roots Music Report's top 50 Blues Albums and top 50 Contemporary Blues Albums, reaching a high of number 3 in early September 2022.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

PATTY TUITE

In the 1980’s she began listening to blues musicians and emulating their styles.

Patty began playing guitar out in public and singing at open mic sessions in Springfield, MA during the early the early 1990’s.  This led to her first well received live recording in 1996 “Live At The Tic Toc.”  

Her first blues-based band, The Patty Tuite Band, formed in 1999, playing throughout the Southern New England region, gaining fans at clubs, functions, and summer concert festivals.  This experience led to her second recording “Girls Night Out” in 2001 and then “Blond and Blue” in 2007.

The band competed in the finals of the Connecticut Blues Society (CTBS) “Blues Challenge” in 2001 and 2005. Due to her showing at the CTBS statewide competitions, two of Patty’s originals were included on the CTBS compilation CDs, “Local Flavor” (2003) and “Blue State Blues” (2007). She also became a judge for the CT Blues Challenge on two occasions.

As well as playing blues from 2007-2017 with two more bands, the Boilermakers and the Percolators, Patty branched out into jazz and played with an eastern CT band, Blue Steam, in 2012. It was a creative and expansive collaboration together, not only playing standards, but reinterpreting popular songs with a jazz bent.

In 2016, Patty created The Patty Tuite Group, playing a mix of originals, blues, jazz and rock favorites.   They played some of her original material live for the Northeast CT Musicians Collaborative which was aired on Spectrum TV in 2018.  The band became very active playing local clubs throughout Southern New England.

In 2021 Patty and her husband Jim formed a new independent record label, Thread City Productions, which the past two releases came out on.

In the summer of 2022, Patty has been sitting on the judges panel for the 2022 Connecticut Blues Society, Blues Challenge.

Since 2004 Patty has enjoyed playing in a children’s band called the Kidsville Kuckoo Revue, led by Bruce John, one of the founders of the famed Shaboo Inn. She thinks it is a fun and rewarding way to get children to appreciate and participate in music-making.

JAN JUNGDEN

Jan Jungden has been performing regionally for over 30 years. She developed her R&B roots with the eclectic “Jake and the Family Jewels” touring the Northeast and playing such clubs as the Bottom Line and Lonestar in NewYork City and Toad's Place in New Haven. In addition to performing regularly with the Patty Tuite Band, Jan currently plays jazz with the Jan Jungden Trio and funk with the band FUSE. Jan has recorded two albums of primarily original material – “Smooth Ride” with the Jan Jungden Trio and “Light it Up” with FUSE Funk Band.

Her early blues influences stem from hearing live concerts by many of the great blues bands at Willimantic’s legendary club, The Shaboo, including Muddy Waters, Freddie King, and Bonnie Raitt. She studied jazz at the University of Bridgeport, and has written music for musical theater. With Patty Tuite, Jan's keyboard versatility keeps things interesting whether she’s playing a funky rhythm on clavinet or or burning up a solo on piano or organ. Then she’ll surprise audiences by soaring on the flute or rockin’ out on the keytar. Jan & Patty have been friends for many years and continue to enjoy collaborating on new, original music.

MARK ANNULI

Mark Annulli, a versatile musician, brings the heartbeat to Patty Tuite's rhythm section as the bassist and backup vocalist since the 2016 season. His distinctive touch resonates on Patty Tuite's 2021 album "Consider This," showcasing his studio prowess.

Beyond this collaboration, Mark's musical journey unfolds through diverse projects with Eastern CT artists since 2008, spanning genres from original acoustic Americana with Horizon Blue to the rock and progressive sounds of Drop City, and the unique alt-Americana stylings of SepiaTone. Explore the rich tapestry of Mark's contributions to the regional music scene.

JUDI THOMPKINS

Judi Thompkins, drumming for the past 55 years. Starting at just 7, I knew I had what it takes. I came into this world pre-wired for drumming. So I fine tuned all thru school and found myself with "Landslide" a local Southern-Rock band. Drumming on and off for the next few decades finally finding my place in 2017 with Patty Tuite Band. Completely feelin' her style of music, I fit right in!

PEGGY ANN CONTOS HARVEY

Peggy Ann Contos Harvey is a multi-instrumentalist and harmony vocalist who brought a new dimension to the sound of the Patty Tuite Band beginning in 2022. Her musical journey began with classical piano and clarinet during the 60's and 70's and drifted through genres of big band music and a 25 year journey fiddling and singing with The Traver Hollow Bluegrass Band.

Peggy met Patty through solo artist Bruce John, who she credits with developing her knowledge and interest in rock music. In addition to more than10 recording projects, Peggy Ann has toured throughout the Northern, Southern and Midwestern USA and Canada, as well as several European tours. She continues to perform with The Hot Flashes , The Shady Creek Bluegrass Band and a dynamic duo with Bruce John and The Music Vault.

Her contribution to the distinctive sound of The Patty Tuite Band is expressed with her characteristic electric violin style, sassy soprano sax, and rock and blues style alto sax and harmonica. "Being able to contribute to the performance of Patty's fabulous original tune repertoire and dynamic cover tunes along with the very talented members of Patty's band is challenging, rewarding and a great pleasure".

SPECIAL NOTE: We are pleased to present Ellis Paul ‘s debut performance at The Packing House! This seasoned Boston based singer songwriter has wowed folks for more than three decades. Ellis combines his multi-instrumental talents with original lyrics and storytelling to engage his audience. With a captivating performance and 22 albums to his name, this is a show not to miss!

ELLIS PAUL doesn’t just write songs; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition and details the hopes, loves, losses of those he observes, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. And much like the artists who have influenced him, everyone from Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to the singer-songwriter who is undoubtedly his greatest inspiration, Woody Guthrie, Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless. Born and raised in Maine, Paul attended Boston College on a track scholarship and in the evenings became a fixture on the city’s open mic circuit.

Open mic stages and New England coffee houses were the incubator that set him on the fast track to honing his craft as a singer-songwriter-guitarist in the early 1990s. Before long he had emerged as one of the brightest lights in the galaxy of prodigiously talented stars working the Boston-area folk scene at the time, a cohort that included Patty Griffin, Patty Larkin, Vance Gilbert, Dar Williams, and Martin Sexton, among others. After winning a Boston Acoustic Underground songwriter competition, he caught the ear of folk luminary Bill Morrissey, who produced his indie album Say Something in 1993. This led to a seven-album contract with Rounder Records and the 1994 album, Stories.

His songs have appeared in several blockbuster films (Me, Myself, and Irene; Shallow Hal, Hall Pass) and have been covered by award winning country artists (Sugarland, Kristian Bush, Jack Ingram). Through a steady succession of albums of his own – a remarkable 23 releases so far – and a constant touring presence around the world, Paul’s audience has grown into a loyal legion of fans. Along the way, he has picked up an impressive number of awards including the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award, 15 Boston Music Awards, An Honorary Doctorate from the University of Maine, the 2019 International Acoustic Music Awards Artist of the Year and most recently his album, The Storyteller’s Suitcase, was named the 2019 NERFA Album of the Year.

But to focus on him as a master of songwriting alone is to miss the bigger picture, for he is and does so much more. An original American renaissance man, he is also an illustrator, poet, children’s book author, producer, music tour leader, collaborator, innovator, educator, commencement speaker, honorary doctorate recipient, respected spokesperson among his peer group of leading folk artists, and esteemed mentor to newer songwriters such as Rebecca Loebe, Antje Duvekot, and Seth Glier. Then there are his forays into other media, such as song placements in successful movies, covers by Grammy nominated artists, his Parent’s Choice Foundation award for two children’s albums, and his headlining roles as a performer at Woody Guthrie festivals and tribute concerts. The achievements and accolades go on and on.

His new album “55” touches on the necessity of gratitude in a difficult era of the pandemic and divided political stances on his own imprint, Rosella Records.

SPECIAL NOTE: New York Based singer/songwriter Jenna Nicholls will return to The Packing House stage with her original music and fresh lyrics! Last year Jenna blew us away with her unique style and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to have her join us once again. This is an acoustic performance not to miss!

Whether she’s crooning a jazz standard, belting out a New Orleans style dirge or plucking her 1920’s style original ballads on her Ukulele, she’s giving a vintage genre a new spin with her own lush nostalgic style and melodic sensibility.

Hailing from the small town of Irwin, PA near Pittsburgh, after college Jenna set her sights east to test her wings as a songwriter and performer. Initially trying Boston, she ultimately gravitated to the creative hotbed of Manhattan’s Lower East Side forging lasting friendships with other like-minded artists and musicians. Nicholls made three albums on her own dime: Curled Up Toes in Red Mary Janes, The Blooming Hour, and Radio Parade. The albums revealed a restless muse and a theme that would be a constant for Nicholls: a love of vintage music – anything from classic music films like “Singin’ in the Rain” to Bessie Smith.

Jenna has toured with Ingrid Michaelson, shared the stage with Oscar Winner Glen Hansard, Amanda Palmer, Lucius, Joan as Policewoman, Gerry Leonard (Spooky Ghost/David Bowie). She’s performed in venues all over the world including the Beacon Theater NYC, and Carnegie Hall.

Her newest release, “THE COMMUTER” displays Jenna’s melodic and lyrical gifts in full flower. It’s a cinematic trip that takes the listener to 1930’s Parisian cafés, New Orleans juke joints, Tennessee hills and the wide-open vistas of Texas and Oklahoma; even the weekly commute from Manhattan to the Hudson Valley home Jenna created with her husband makes an appearance.

Special Note: Ramblin' Dan Stevens will be presenting a version of his popular Blues 101 - a History of the Blues program followed by a concert inspired by the material.

Blues 101 is an entertaining and educational multi-media presentation encompassing the history of blues music in America including classic pieces played on authentic vintage instruments interspersed with historical images, video and educational material. The roots of rock and roll, jazz and even hip hop can be traced to this important form. Of special interest are pieces performed on Dan's homemade, three stringed "Cigar Box Guitar" and one stringed "Diddley Bow", both primitive instruments used by early bluesmen and played with a "bottleneck" slide.

The second set will be a wide ranging concert with songs, stories and originals based on Ramblin' Dan's experience championing this music in over three decades of touring on the road.

At the young age of sixteen, DAN STEVEN's romantic streak was ignited by his first guitar teacher in small town central Pennsylvania who told him stories about the lives of traveling blues musicians like Mississippi John Hurt and Fred McDowell. After being inspired by Woody Guthrie’s book, “Bound for Glory”, the magnetic lure of the road captured his imagination and with a driving passion he hitchhiked and hopped freight trains, guitar in hand across the United States five times, eventually covering over 100,000 miles.

Always seeking diverse experiences, he has worked as a teacher in Pennsylvania and Arizona, a rock climbing instructor in New Mexico, broke his collarbone riding bulls in Colorado.and sailed schooners for a living on the Eastern seaboard. He lived full time on his own wooden sloop in Mystic CT for a couple of years while performing solo up and down the East Coast. A highlight of this period was sailing throughout Central and South America as mate aboard David Crosby’s (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young) sailboat, the Mayan.

Musically, Dan continued to hone his guitar skills taking lessons from renowned acoustic guitarist and W.C. Handy Award winner Paul Rishell, who taught him how to play slide. Later, he was blessed to study with Greenwich Village based folk/blues icon Dave Van Ronk during the last years of Van Ronk’s storied life. His repertoire reflects the influence of his revered teachers who actually knew and performed with many of the legendary blues masters. His tastes include delta blues “bottleneck slide” tunes, the more carefree piedmont style, and arrangements comprised of complex orchestration with plenty of chord changes up the neck in the spirit of Dave Van Ronk. His originals remain true to the traditional forces which powerfully shaped his early musical development and prompt listeners to praise the authenticity of his approach.

As a full time professional musician since 1991, Dan continues to tour incessantly along the East Coast, U.S. Virgin Islands, U.K., Germany and Canada. He has appeared with such artists as Johnny Winter, James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens, Charlie Daniels, Livingston Taylor, Ronnie Earl, and others. An irrepressible guitar collector, Dan surrounds himself with vintage and custom instruments acquired in his many travels. Usually packing three guitars, any given performance may find him choosing to play a Gibson J-200, 1950’s Sears Silvertone, a 1931 National Steel, a retro lime green Resophonic, and more.

Dan’s most recent CD, “Dirt Floor Sessions”, has been described as having a real, raw, rockin' feel with songs encompassing sounds from his major influences. Several cuts are interpretations of intricate finger style arrangements learned directly from mentor Dave Van Ronk. Others invoke the spirit of the delta through his newfound interest in primitive homemade instruments, specifically the 3 stringed cigar box guitar and one stringed diddley bow. Rounded out with Dan's originals and the addition in just the right spots of tuba, clarinet, lap steel and percussion, the disc is a true snapshot of his musical evolution.

Termed “Connecticut’s hardest working bluesman” by the New York Times in 2002, he plays over 200 engagements a year, including concerts, clubs, festivals, coffeehouses, community and private events and educational programs. He has appeared at Long Island’s Riverhead Blues Festival; the Berlin Blues Festival in Connecticut; was the closer in the acoustic section of the Fleet Blues Festival in Albany, New York and Pennsylvania’s Harry Smith Festival. Dan was a finalist at the International Blues Challenge '08 on Beale Street in Memphis TN with partner Chris D'Amato and has been chosen to be included on the roster of the Music Under New York program enabling him to perform in prime locations throughout the MTA system such as Times Square and Grand Central Station. He is also endorsed by Connecticut’s State Arts Commission and the New England Foundation for the Arts. He lives on the shoreline in Old Lyme, Connecticut with his wife Gail and daughter, Haley.

Over the past twenty-five years, Jeff has taken his experience as a stage actor and created a one-man musical showcasing his story telling, a sharp sense of humor, and an acoustic guitar full of his own original songs.

Since 2000, Jeff Daniels has toured the country, playing such venues as The Birchmere, Club Passim, Café Lena, New York City’s 54 Below and Birdland, the City Wineries in New York, Chicago and Nashville, Chicago’s Old School of Folk Music, Seattle’s The Triple Door, all the way to Alaska’s Latitude 62 in Talkeetna, and now The Packing House!

Jeff has shared the stage with Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, Cheryl Wheeler, Guy Clark, Christine Lavin, Keb’ Mo’, and Bruce Hornsby.

New England musician FRANK VIELE’S authenticity and road-tested storytelling is redefining and revitalizing heartland rock.

Raised in a single-parent household and inspired by America’s greatest rock n’ rollers like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Segar, and Tom Petty, Viele composes songs that tug at the heartstrings. His music pulls the listener in with poignant lyrics, soulful guitar playing, and an expansive vocal range that segues between gravelly digs and high-stamina belt-outs. Viele is the rare artist who is not afraid of wearing his heart on his sleeve, blending elements of folk, blues, and rock into a unique sound that feels relevant and relatable.

Viele’s latest full-length album, The Trouble With Desire, encapsulates the heart and soul of a road warrior chasing his dreams, while reflecting on his hardships and hopes. Written and cultivated over several years between his Hamden, Connecticut, home base and the rock n’ roll mecca of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, The Trouble With Desire is the culmination of a years-long writing-and-recording journey with Jimmy Nutt (Jason Isbell, American Aquarium) and James LeBlanc (Travis Tritt, Will Hoge, Tim McGraw) of Nutthouse Studios.

After a number of bands, Viele now a national touring artist as a solo act, is supporting multiple artists, including Allen, Mack, Myers, Moore (featuring Zach Myers of Shinedown), Howie Day, Tony Luca, Lee DeWyze, and Pat McGee. Living on the road and sleeping in hotel rooms for two years, 2017 brought Viele’s sophomore solo album, “What’s His Name?” a transitional album that ultimately bridged Viele’s horn driven, jam/soul-infused past with the Americana, Southern Rock, and folk music that Viele had begun to gravitate toward. Earnest ballads like “Pomegranate” and “If You Could Only Read My Mind” — combined with blues-rock-infused drivers like “’Til The Bourbon’s All Gone” and “It” — pushed this album onto the Americana Radio Charts and garnered Viele his first “Songwriter of The Year” Award from the New England Music Awards.

In January 2024, Viele founded Bigger Beast Records, a full-service boutique independent record label and management company striving to promote music that inspires the world around it and leaves a lasting impact. In conjunction with the label, Viele also launched All Boats Rising Entertainment, a concert promotion outlet. Bigger Beast Records’ first major event, the 21 Songwriters Music Festival in September, highlighted emerging Connecticut artists, while benefitting Musical Intervention, a 501C3 organization that uses music and songwriting to help create a safe environment for the recovery of mental health and addiction.

In 2025 and beyond, Viele hopes to unleash more new material, including collaborations from some of his closest musical comrades and unexpected guests, while touring and working to give back to the music communities that have supported him throughout his journey.

Viele’s album The Trouble With Desire hits all digital music platforms early in 2025, followed by live performances throughout the U.S. in the Spring.

Witt's full length self-produced Christmas album, “I Think I'm Spending Christmas With You”, came out in November 2024. Witt has performed on film, TV and stage for four decades. A classically trained competitive pianist, Alicia's music has been described as 'sharply personal, boldly melodic pop originals in the Carole King/Billy Joel vein' (Philadelphia Inquirer).

 In 2023, Witt appeared on Fox's The Masked Singer, winning her first episode with her rendition of Over The Rainbow. She is also a familiar face to Hallmark Christmas movie fans, with 9 original Christmas movies (2013-2020), many of which feature her original music.

 Alicia was on the Billboard Top 30 chart for 5 weeks with 2021's piano power ballad Chasing Shadows, off her album The Conduit, which she co-produced. A competitive classical pianist as a child, she supported herself by playing piano in the restaurants and bars from the age of 10, including in the lobby lounge of the famed Beverly/Wilshire Hotel from ages 16-19. The Nashville Scene said of her Ben Folds produced album Revisionary History: "... a piano-pop gem that sounds by turns like Grey Seal era Elton John, an alt-universe Fiona Apple and a film-noir chanteuse notching her nights in cigarette burns on the fallboard."  She has played all over the world, including at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, and has opened for Ben Folds Five, Rachel Platten, Bob Schneider, Jimmy Webb and John Fulbright. 

Alicia has performed her original piano-driven pop music all over the world, including at the renowned Grand Ole Opry. She has also opened for Ben Folds Five, Rachel Platten, and Jimmy Webb, to name a few. Her 2018 release, 15000 Days, was produced by Grammy-winning producer Jacquire King (James Bay, Norah Jones, Kings of Leon, Dawes). Witt’s previous album, Revisionary History, was produced by Ben Folds and was described as ‘Grey Seal era Elton John, an alt-universe Fiona Apple, and a film noir chanteuse notching her nights in cigarette burns on the fallboard' (NASHVILLE SCENE).

Alicia's career as a TV/film actor began with David Lynch's DUNE at age 7. Her over 100 credits include Netflix's 2022 hit I Care A Lot; Orange Is The New Black; The Walking Dead; ABC's Nashville; FX's Justified; Twin Peaks; Two Weeks Notice; Mr Holland's Opus; The Sopranos; Cybill; Urban Legend; and Fun, which earned her acting awards at the Sundance Film Festival and the Gijon International Festival, and an Independent Spirit Award nomination. She has also been nominated for Screen Actors' Guild and Saturn Awards. 

 Witt has played multiple roles combining her skills as a musician and an actor, including as country singer Autumn Chase on ABC's Nashville. She can be seen playing the piano in David Lynch's original Twin Peaks in 1990 - a role she reprised in the return in 2018. Alicia's skills on the piano were also worked into her character, Zoey, on the sitcom Cybill (1995-1998) and in the film Playing Mona Lisa (2000). She also sang on the hit series Ally McBeal, including a performance with Randy Newman, and twice portrayed singer-songwriters in her Christmas movies, including Christmas Tree Lane, which she wrote the story for and produced, as well as contributed two original songs.

The People of Ukraine Need Your Support!

On September 24, 2022, EC-CHAP planned and executed a benefit concert, “Songs for Ukraine” at The Packing House. 100% of all proceeds raised were provided directly to support the people of Ukraine. We felt a need to support these people then; and with the recent issues and developments, we feel a need to respond again in these uncertain times.

As a result, we are offering a second benefit concert, "Songs for Ukraine II" featuring outstanding performances by five past CT State Troubadours including: Kala Farnham, Kate Callahan, Lara Herscovitch, Pierce Campbell, and Thomasina Levy.

We are honored to have Alexander Kuzma serve as our Master of Ceremony for this event.

Alex Kuzma is a community leader, fundraiser and activist in the Ukrainian American community. A lawyer by training, for 15 years, he served as Development Director for the Children of Chornobyl Relief Fund and Development Director for the Hartford-based organization, Aid to Artisans, that promoted fair trade and economic development for artisan collectives in Haiti, El Salvador, Mexico, South Africa, and other countries.

He also serves as the Chief Development Officer for the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation and Cofounder and Choral Director of the Yevshan Ukrainian Vocal Ensemble based in Connecticut.

Kala Farnham crafts folk songs with roots and wings, weaving age-old truths into modern grooves. Drawing on a background in classical piano and musical theater, she reimagines the folk tradition, infusing fairytales, historical fiction, and mantra-based narrative medicine into vivid portraits of the familiar world. Her intimate, fireside-style sonic tapestries—featuring soul-stirring vocals and mystical folk harp, piano, and guitar—invite listeners on a transcendent journey that lingers long after the final note fades.

Kate Callahan is an American singer-songwriter and member of In Trine, a vocal harmony trio based in Connecticut. Her latest album, Lay it Down, is a welcome reprieve for anyone who needs a deep breath. She takes listeners through the mountains of China, to the front lines of the climate crisis, and into a state of compassion as only Kate knows how: by embodying her songs with every cell.

Lara Herscovitch is a singer-songwriter-poet-performer-author gem. As described in The Boston Globe, she brings "a luminous voice and a buoyant stage presence... big-hearted lyrics embrace the sum of life...Herscovitch's music blows on the embers of a lagging spirit or a dormant creative life." Lara leads with authenticity, integrity, humor and heart. Sound Waves Magazine described her music as "expertly written prose... songwriting at its best... good for your ears AND your soul."

Pierce has been playing guitar and singing most of his life, receiving high praise for his dazzling guitar work, superb songwriting, and powerful vocals. His performances are versatile, humorous and engaging as he jumps from guitar instrumentals, to vocal ballads, to Irish sing-alongs, all of which take the listener down a road of unexpected twists and turns. Pierce is a full time musician and has released five solo CD’s. He plays over 260 shows a year throughout the Northeast at municipalities, libraries, festivals, Irish pubs, coffeehouses, and senior centers.

Thomasina Levy, is an award-winning songwriter, poet, and internationally recognized mountain dulcimer player whose performances weave together the best of traditional and contemporary folk music. She is a popular virtual workshop leader whose workshops frequently sell out. Her music has been aired in over twenty countries across the globe. Described as a charismatic performer, she touches audiences with a simplicity, humanity, and strength drawn from the deep roots of the folk tradition.

His storytelling is sometimes painful, deep, and real, an earthy contrast to modern-day commercial music, meant to create thought, underlined by gentle tones from his guitar or banjo fingerpicking.

EC-CHAP Acoustic Artist Series: The Patty Tuite Band (Blues/Indie)

Special Note: We are excited to have The Patty Tuite Band return to The Packing House this season! This local/regional band with award winning musician, Patty Tuite at the helm, has been turning heads in our area with a blues vibe that just doesn’t quit. It’s a pleasure to have these exceptional artists grace our stage!

PATTY TUITE is a singer/songwriter who embraces the genre of blues, jazz and rock music. Patty started at a young age listening to her mom’s piano playing of hymns, musicals and Boogie Woogie and began playing piano before the age of 5.  Patty began playing guitar at 17 years old focusing on fingerpicking and rhythm and learning Folk music and singing.

Patty played with and led numerous bands and ensembles since those early days,honing her chops in the blues, jazz, and rock arena. The rest is history!

When Covid lockdown requirements started, Patty continued writing new songs and started “back-yard” practices in the summer of 2020 performing the new material and sharing videos with her fan base. This was the group that then went into the studio in December 2020-January 2021 to complete the new music for Patty Tuite “Consider This.” The recording features a fantastic array of new material all written and composed by Patty. Produced by Grammy award winner Paul Nelson, who also plays electric, slide and acoustic guitar on the album, to the excited expectations of her ever growing, world-wide fan base.

“Consider This” has been featured in numerous magazine reviews, including “Making a Scene,” Blues in The South and charting for 6 weeks on Roots Music Reports top contemporary blues albums as well as charting # 171 for 2021.   “Consider This” also charted on the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association’s top 40 in the UK.  This year Patty went back into the The Music Room, West Yarmouth's studios and worked again with Grammy Award winner PAUL NELSON and recorded a Blues Oriented Album featuring an All Start Cast, including 2021 Grammy Award winner BOBBY RUSH as well as many other notables in the music industry.  This album received praise from Frank Rozack,Gold and Platinum Manager and now Patty's publicist, who stated, "Wonderful album.  What’s to say? Just fantastic, fabulous."  It has gone on to chart on Roots Music Report's top 50 Blues Albums and top 50 Contemporary Blues Albums, reaching a high of number 3 in early September 2022.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

PATTY TUITE

In the 1980’s she began listening to blues musicians and emulating their styles.

Patty began playing guitar out in public and singing at open mic sessions in Springfield, MA during the early the early 1990’s.  This led to her first well received live recording in 1996 “Live At The Tic Toc.”  

Her first blues-based band, The Patty Tuite Band, formed in 1999, playing throughout the Southern New England region, gaining fans at clubs, functions, and summer concert festivals.  This experience led to her second recording “Girls Night Out” in 2001 and then “Blond and Blue” in 2007.

The band competed in the finals of the Connecticut Blues Society (CTBS) “Blues Challenge” in 2001 and 2005. Due to her showing at the CTBS statewide competitions, two of Patty’s originals were included on the CTBS compilation CDs, “Local Flavor” (2003) and “Blue State Blues” (2007). She also became a judge for the CT Blues Challenge on two occasions.

As well as playing blues from 2007-2017 with two more bands, the Boilermakers and the Percolators, Patty branched out into jazz and played with an eastern CT band, Blue Steam, in 2012. It was a creative and expansive collaboration together, not only playing standards, but reinterpreting popular songs with a jazz bent.

In 2016, Patty created The Patty Tuite Group, playing a mix of originals, blues, jazz and rock favorites.   They played some of her original material live for the Northeast CT Musicians Collaborative which was aired on Spectrum TV in 2018.  The band became very active playing local clubs throughout Southern New England.

In 2021 Patty and her husband Jim formed a new independent record label, Thread City Productions, which the past two releases came out on.

In the summer of 2022, Patty has been sitting on the judges panel for the 2022 Connecticut Blues Society, Blues Challenge.

Since 2004 Patty has enjoyed playing in a children’s band called the Kidsville Kuckoo Revue, led by Bruce John, one of the founders of the famed Shaboo Inn. She thinks it is a fun and rewarding way to get children to appreciate and participate in music-making.

JAN JUNGDEN

Jan Jungden has been performing regionally for over 30 years. She developed her R&B roots with the eclectic “Jake and the Family Jewels” touring the Northeast and playing such clubs as the Bottom Line and Lonestar in NewYork City and Toad's Place in New Haven. In addition to performing regularly with the Patty Tuite Band, Jan currently plays jazz with the Jan Jungden Trio and funk with the band FUSE. Jan has recorded two albums of primarily original material – “Smooth Ride” with the Jan Jungden Trio and “Light it Up” with FUSE Funk Band.

Her early blues influences stem from hearing live concerts by many of the great blues bands at Willimantic’s legendary club, The Shaboo, including Muddy Waters, Freddie King, and Bonnie Raitt. She studied jazz at the University of Bridgeport, and has written music for musical theater. With Patty Tuite, Jan's keyboard versatility keeps things interesting whether she’s playing a funky rhythm on clavinet or or burning up a solo on piano or organ. Then she’ll surprise audiences by soaring on the flute or rockin’ out on the keytar. Jan & Patty have been friends for many years and continue to enjoy collaborating on new, original music.

MARK ANNULI

Mark Annulli, a versatile musician, brings the heartbeat to Patty Tuite's rhythm section as the bassist and backup vocalist since the 2016 season. His distinctive touch resonates on Patty Tuite's 2021 album "Consider This," showcasing his studio prowess.

Beyond this collaboration, Mark's musical journey unfolds through diverse projects with Eastern CT artists since 2008, spanning genres from original acoustic Americana with Horizon Blue to the rock and progressive sounds of Drop City, and the unique alt-Americana stylings of SepiaTone. Explore the rich tapestry of Mark's contributions to the regional music scene.

JUDI THOMPKINS

Judi Thompkins, drumming for the past 55 years. Starting at just 7, I knew I had what it takes. I came into this world pre-wired for drumming. So I fine tuned all thru school and found myself with "Landslide" a local Southern-Rock band. Drumming on and off for the next few decades finally finding my place in 2017 with Patty Tuite Band. Completely feelin' her style of music, I fit right in!

PEGGY ANN CONTOS HARVEY

Peggy Ann Contos Harvey is a multi-instrumentalist and harmony vocalist who brought a new dimension to the sound of the Patty Tuite Band beginning in 2022. Her musical journey began with classical piano and clarinet during the 60's and 70's and drifted through genres of big band music and a 25 year journey fiddling and singing with The Traver Hollow Bluegrass Band.

Peggy met Patty through solo artist Bruce John, who she credits with developing her knowledge and interest in rock music. In addition to more than10 recording projects, Peggy Ann has toured throughout the Northern, Southern and Midwestern USA and Canada, as well as several European tours. She continues to perform with The Hot Flashes , The Shady Creek Bluegrass Band and a dynamic duo with Bruce John and The Music Vault.

Her contribution to the distinctive sound of The Patty Tuite Band is expressed with her characteristic electric violin style, sassy soprano sax, and rock and blues style alto sax and harmonica. "Being able to contribute to the performance of Patty's fabulous original tune repertoire and dynamic cover tunes along with the very talented members of Patty's band is challenging, rewarding and a great pleasure".

SPECIAL NOTE: They’re Back! Belle of the Fall (Tracy Walton and Julia Autumn Ford) were the first live performing artists at The Packing House in 2015.

They hold a special place in EC-CHAP’s history, and honored in our 200’ mural that graces the exterior of our home at The Mill Works.

Tracy and Julia each returned to The Packing House as solo artists following the pandemic; and are now together again for this Special Performance added to our 2024-2025 performance Season. If you’ve seen them before - please come back; if not - come along, as you’re in for a performance to remember!

In 2014 Tracy Walton produced Julia Autumn Ford's debut album at his studio, On Deck Sound Studio. In essence that record is somewhat the birth of Belle of the Fall, the meeting of 2 very different yet kindred musical minds.

Later that year they would tour the East Coast together sharing bills and playing separate solo sets. It didn't take long for them to start sitting in on each other's sets and writing harmonies to keep them occupied on the long drives between venues.

The summer of 2015 was the right time for the two forces to officially collide. In 2016 the duo released their debut album, "Earthbound." "Rise Up" followed in 2017 and in 2019 "The Bending of Light" was released.

They took a creative hiatus through the pandemic and beyond but 2025 finds the duo excited to return to live shows together. Ten years in, and roughly 1000 shows later, their sound has never been more cohesive. They are a must see!

Recently, Jenna has toured with Ingrid Michaelson, shared the stage with Oscar Winner Glen Hansard, Amanda Palmer, Lucius, Joan as Policewoman, Gerry Leonard (Spooky Ghost/David Bowie). She’s performed in venues all over the world including the Beacon Theater NYC, and Carnegie Hall.

“Home.” is a heart-wrencher, as she leaves behind all her vocal acrobatics. Frankly, this song doesn’t need them. Nicholls is a genius storyteller through her vocal inflections. This subdue ballad is reminiscent of Norah Jones but is distinctly Nicholls.

Kala has graced our stage annually since 2017, and has brought with her an incredible instrumental talent and powerful lyrics. It was clear from the first time I heard her that she was a very special artist. With a long list of accolades and numerous awards to her name, she has achieved the State of Connecticut’s highest musical achievement in 2022 as CT State Troubadour, a title well deserved.

KALA FARNHAM is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter hailing from the Quiet Corner of CT. Kala's signature songwriting has been described as a reinvention of the folk tradition made popular by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.

She has been praised for her classical undertones and playful dose Broadway theatricality onstage, and a lyricism that springs to life with creative storytelling, cultural references, and rich metaphor. Her first full-length studio album, "Anahata: Wake Up Your Heart", was nominated for "Best Americana Album" in RI's Motif Music Awards alongside a nomination for "Best Female Americana Vocalist".

In 2015, she was selected to be an Official Showcase Artist in Folk Alliance International's SERFA Music Conference. October 2016 marked the release of her 2nd studio album, "Samadhi: Home Is Where You Are" as well as another Motif nomination for Best Americana Album. Kala is an alumni of the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project and the winner of the 2017 Rhode Island Songwriters Association Performing Songwriter Contest.

Kala’s signature songwriting has been likened to a reinvention of the traditional folk with influences of pop, Broadway, and world music. Her affinity for poetry and creative writing is evident through lyricism that springs to life with heartfelt and creative storytelling, cultural references, and rich metaphor. Her work has garnered numerous awards and media attention, including 2020 Falcon Ridge Festival Emerging Artist, 2019 Rose Garden Performing Songwriter Contest winner, 2019 Rocky Mountain Folks Fest honorable mention

Farnham's 2020 album, "Your Spirit Is a Work of Art", is composed of thirteen musical vignettes exploring the imperfect beauty of the human condition; it has been described by Nick Noble of The Folk Revival as “a work of poetic insight… worth listening to again and again."

She studies Music Performance and Composition while also pursing Human Services and Mental Health. Together, these interests drive her passion for the healing and transformative power of musical storytelling. Kala also serves as a certified Crisis Counselor, and works with an array of populations such as at-risk youth, those who suffer from mental illness, and survivors of trauma. She has taught, performed for, and worked with youth programs, students with learning disabilities, individuals recovering from addiction, and those who have lost loved ones to suicide. Kala is currently studying sound healing and Nada Yoga and plans to She incorporate elements of the practice into her work.

As the Connecticut State Troubadour, Kala plans to apply her foundations and strong background in music performance and human service in this honorary role to foster healing and community connection through music.

Kala will be accompanied by Michael Albain on cello and Jay Margolin on djembe.

Alittle bit of time has passed between when JON POUSETTE-DART as a teenager started forging a path in the musical landscape that started in the 60’s and laid a foundation with the original Pousette-Dart Band. Throughout the 70’s and into the 80’s the band earned a loyal national following and produced 5 releases for Capitol that made a deep imprint in the world of album radio, when we all used to only listen to vinyl.

When the band parted ways, Jon continued working and slowly began navigating back to where he started writing and recording in earnest with many of Nashville’s finest.

Some twenty odd years ago Jon crossed paths with Jim Chapdelaine one of the more formidable musicians he crossed paths with. Jon continued touring as their musical collaboration continued to brew into a satisfying vital musical landscape of it’s own.

Turn the clock ahead some years and a few questions might be asked.

What do two left handed guitar players and the combined experience of rummaging around the music business since the early 1970’s equal? It could equal a squalid path of broken dreams, less than half paid mortgages, multiple marriages, many junked cars, and closets full of suitcases of clothes with the indelible after scent of Marlboro’s and Budweiser’s ground into the sinews of years in dark dressing rooms contained in gin joints where the holy grail and graduation degree was 5 sets a night till closing time.

And so it came to be.

Monsignor Pousette-Dart and Senor Chapdelaine discovered they shared a gift both in the studio and on the stage that rose above the hum drum drudgery of day to day existence, and were able to reach into people’s souls and pull out pieces of magic that created joy and fresh air, no matter which roads or towns their journeys took them.

And now as fate would have it, they have a renewed passion and vigor to explore the world of flats, sharps, repeats, words and crescendos to make small babies smile and precious mothers relax into their easy chairs and remember all the good that the world holds.

Men too.

So, no matter your predilections, or worries or concerns in your everyday life, consider taking a moment to breath, and buy a ticket when they come to your town.

SPECIAL NOTE: Nina Romanenko originally performed with her band at our monthly Talent Showcase where she clearly displayed exceptional vocal and songwriting talent! She has continued to support EC-CHAP through her Membership, and played a critical role in sustaining our existence during the COVID pandemic through her participation, compassion, collaboration and leadership in our “Virtual Talent Showcase” offering. As a result, she was presented with the “Special Person Award” at the EC-CHAP 2022 Annual Meeting.

Horizon Blue was one of the first acoustic bands to perform at The Packing House in 2017. Not only are these folks accomplished musicians, they are outstanding human beings with big hearts. They were invited to be our opening band for a major 2019 Benefit concert with Tom Rush and Matt Nakoa at The Packing House, and remain in a special place in our evolving history.

NINA ROMANENKO is a CT singer, songwriter and guitarist who loves working with and performing for people of all ages. She performs original and standard tunes with her own take on old-timey jazz, country blues, folk and rockabilly. Shows are great fun and filled with connection, humor, meaning and conscience.

"This song was written as an Anthem for Residents and their Families - who were seeking safe and meaningful visitation with their Loved Ones in Nursing Homes, Healthcare and Assisted Living Facilities - where they had been Isolated and confined beginning March 10, 2020. The lock down was meant to protect them from COVID 19 during the Pandemic but many died of Covid anyway - and then began suffering and dying from the effects of the Isolation as well."

Nina provides therapeutic music programs at Healthcare Facilities to bring smiles, laughter, peace and comfort. She also performs at cultural events and venues - including the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, Groton Sub Base, Cheney Hall and the famous Matt Malloy's pub in Ireland. She was a member of John Beardsley's Elvis Experience, which opened for Danny & the Juniors and for The Drifters - and she has opened solo for Tom Rush and Jeffrey Gaines.

Nina is excited to be performing at The Packing House and share the stage with Horizon Blue! She performs from 7:30 to 8:30 and will be accompanied by performing/recording artist, Brian Macdonald - with his unique, dynamic guitar style.” Monique Hill will join in on a few with her lovely harmonies, as well.

HORIZON BLUE

HORIZON BLUE captures the essence of California folk/country music and the singer songwriter. Their music is a harmonic eclectic blend with lush, acoustic arrangements. Horizon Blue’s sound features a variety of unique instruments including: lap steel guitar, resophonic guitar, mountain dulcimer, banjo, McNally “Strum Stick” and handcrafted Connecticut made Ovation guitars.

Horizon Blue features the songs of award winning, international singer/songwriter Monique Hill. The songs are heartfelt, melodic, thoughtful, sincere and tell stories of everyday life. Monique’s voice is described by fans as the voice of an angel, sparkling and pure as a bird in flight.

Curtis Brand, Rich DeBrito, and Dean Bolt

Since 2016 EC-CHAP has offered a monthly Talent Showcase, settling in on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Over the past eight (8) years, we have enjoyed a lot of folks sharing a lot of talent! From original music - to visual arts; from comedy - to movement; and from spoken word - to hula-hoop artists, we have been fortunate to offer a platform for individuals and groups to share their passion for creative expression.

During the pandemic, we were able to keep the fire burning for over a year through a “Virtual” Talent Showcase model. Folks would submit their work as a video clip, and we compiled their work and streamed a “live” monthly session publicly on our YouTube channel. We are grateful and appreciate all those that contributed and continued to support this offering through the years!

The music of CURTIS BRAND starts with the words. In the tradition of singer songwriters like Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, and Willie Nelson, Curtis playfully jabs the listener with the existential absurdity of our everyday life. He tells tales of the human condition--the lost souls, the wounded veteran, the let down lover--and blends them with delightful ditties and love songs in a performance which not only touches the sensibilities but also lifts the spirit.

From Older than Dirt, a tongue in cheek celebration of the aging process which is the title song from his first album, to Dust on the Water, which memorializes the World Trade Center tragedy, Curtis' songs pull the listener across the full range of human emotions. Whether performing solo in coffee shops and house concerts or joining with the On Call Band in full concert shows, the songs of Curtis Brand reach out and speak of the people around us.

RICH DEBRITO came late to singing and performing. He liked and was inspired by the music he heard on the radio by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and TV and motion picture themes, like: Henry Mancini – “Peter Gunn” ,“Moon River”, “Charade” and Burt Bacharach “Alfie”, “The Look of Love”, etc.

Rich claims he used to sing along with the radio (and still does sometime). When he was about 25 he was introduced to the guitar, and though he didn't take formal lessons, he was able to hold his own. He learned from friends who showed him chords to pop songs along with strums and finger picking styles.

He started playing at open mics back in the 70’s though not that often. In the mid 90’s Rich began to play regularly at open mics and would seek them out over a 30 mile radius. Through the open mics he got to hear and sometimes know people who love to sing. The rest is history... Rich loves to sing and learn songs - and once in a while he'll create a song.

DEAN BOLT is a singer songwriter who grew up in Willimantic CT surrounded by local garage bands, Shaboo bands and other great musicians who went on to successful music careers. He wasn’t one of them. Many years later he found his way to acoustic guitar finger picking style and it clicked. His influences ranged from Leo Kotke, Doc Watson and Bonnie Raitt to James Taylor. There have been plenty of new and old influences. With songs spanning from the 1970’s to last week, it is likely he has written and will be singing about something that connects with your experience. From poignant to thought provoking to off beat, he has written for weddings, funerals, graduations and parties. He explores subjects from crop circles to suicide and, of course, love: good and bad.

He has played at The Sounding Board, Heartstone Winery, The Packing House and many other venues. Give him a listen at a show or download a song from Bandcamp. Enjoy the ride!

Finn Rowan, Tom Turci & John Clark

Finn Rowan is an indie folk singer/songwriter born and raised in CT. After learning to play guitar in high school, he quickly found his creative outlet in writing and have been using it ever since. In forever growing passion and love for music, he is working towards the creation of his first album. Tom Turci is a central Connecticut guitarist, singer and songsmith. His musical roots stem from bluegrass, blues, folk, rock and country. His original music echoes sounds from the 70's and earlier. Fingerstyle picking, downhome strumming, harmonicas singing and a voice all his own to give it life. Tom writes and performs solo around Connecticut. He also frequently performs with local Southington band "Shed Rats", and with musician Nathaniel Hintz. His mission is to bring community and authenticity back to music, providing the best and most genuine sound possible to his own music and performance. John Clark has been a part of the local music scene in eastern Connecticut since he moved here from Florida at age seventeen. He has contributed vocals and rhythm guitar to several duos and various bands, including collaborations with his brother Marty Clark, as well as Nashville recording artist Sarah Lou Richards. All the while, he has been crafting a small trove of personal original songs composed of the various radical musings and eccentric observations of an unschooled creative and social dreamer. John gives voice to the inner workings of his heart and soul, and the excited anticipation of whatever comes next.

Special Note: We are honored to have Cheryl Wheeler and Kenny White share The Packing House stage this spring! Both of these legendary artists have long been favorites of the EC-CHAP family. Cheryl has shared her talents on stage since she was 12 years old, captivating audiences with her outstanding vocals and honest lyrics. Similarly, Kenny has a long list of accomplishments as a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist since the 1970’s. You can often see these two artists performing together live in concert. As Forrest Gump would say, “"Me and Jenny goes together like peas and carrots." You could say the same of Cheryl and Kenny – they just complement each other. This is a show not to miss!

CHERYL WHEELER has to be seen to be appreciated. Nothing you read and nothing you hear from her albums prepares you for how good a performer she is.

You may not be familiar with Cheryl, but you have probably heard her music. She is very respected as a songwriter by her peers, which can be seen by how many of them record her songs. Chery's songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals, Peter Paul and Mary, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Suzy Boggus, Melanie, Bette Midler, Maura O'Connell, Sylvia, Kathy Mattea, and Holly Near. If they think she is great, then you owe it to yourself to learn more if you aren't familiar with her.

From her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people's comments about her you can learn that she is a natural story teller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person, you never really believe what you've been told about her. Besides, almost half of the songs she does during her shows haven't been recorded!

Cheryl's first concert was to a captive audience. She found an old toy ukulele in a neighbor's attic and serenaded her mother who was taking a bath at the time. A year later she got a real ukulele, then finally got her first guitar. She learned guitar from a neighbor, who also taught a group of boys. Each week they would get together and play just about any song they could think of for hours on end. Her first public performance was at a Hootenany type show when she was 12. She started writing songs when she was 17.

In 1983, Cheryl released a self produced EP called Newport Songs. Her first two albums Cheryl Wheeler in 1986, and Half a Book in 1991 were on an independent label, North Star. That company also released a promo tape called Live and Otherwise in 1987. This was a bonus tape that was sent to anyone who filled out a survey form that was included in a number of the North Star albums.

These were followed by numerous recordings and in 2012, Cheryl finally released a live album Cheryl Wheeler Live at the Triple Door, featuring Kenny White. If you have seen these two in concert, you know how great this album is. The album has the complete concert, including the stories and patter between songs. If she doesn't perform in your area very often, here is a great chance to enjoy one of her shows.

KENNY WHITE comes to the world of the touring singer-songwriter following a long and successful musical journey.

An accomplished pianist, who also performs on guitar, Kenny has now become more known for his clever lyrics. LONG LIST OF PRIORS, his aptly named current album, is the latest collection of original songs: snapshots of the human condition. Audiences often comment that a Kenny White concert moves them to laughter and tears — sometimes within the same song! Kenny recently completed an 18-month tour performing his original songs while traveling as the opener for Stephen Stills & Judy Collins, and has toured for many years with Cheryl Wheeler. He is looking forward to returning to the road to perform his own full-length shows.

Born in New York City and raised across the river in Fort Lee, NJ, Kenny White began his career in the 1970s, touring exclusively as the keyboard player for Jonathan Edwards and later with Livingston Taylor, on Linda Ronstadt’s legendary, “Living in the USA” tour.

He became a fixture in the NYC studio scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s, producing and arranging hundreds of commercials for TV and radio, beginning with “The Unsinkable Taste of Cheerios,” nearly seven years of Chevrolet’s “Heartbeat of America” campaign, countless ads for Coca Cola and many others.

Commercial work enabled White to direct artists as renowned and varied as Linda Ronstadt, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples, Ricky Skaggs, and Aaron Neville. White contributed to film soundtracks as writer/musician including Message in a Bottle, Where the Heart Is and four films by Indie-director laureate, John Sayles. Kenny also appears on dozens of recordings of other musicians, including Marc Cohn’s platinum debut.

EC-CHAP Acoustic Artist Series: ThePatty Tuite Band (Blues/Indie)

Special Note: We are excited to have The Patty Tuite Band debut at The Packing House this season! This local/regional band with award winning musician, Patty Tuite at the helm, has been turning heads in our area with a blues vibe that just doesn’t quit. It’s a pleasure to have these exceptional artists grace our stage!

PATTY TUITE is a singer/songwriter who embraces the genre of blues, jazz and rock music, Patty started at a young age listening to her mom’s piano playing of hymns, musicals and Boogie Woogie and began playing piano before the age of 5.  Patty began playing guitar at 17 years old focusing on fingerpicking and rhythm and learning Folk music and singing.

Patty played with and led numerous bands and ensembles since those early days,honing her chops in the blues, jazz, and rock arena. The rest is history!

When Covid lockdown requirements started, Patty continued writing new songs and started “back-yard” practices in the summer of 2020 performing the new material and sharing videos with her fan base. This was the group that then went into the studio in December 2020-January 2021 to complete the new music for Patty Tuite “Consider This.” The recording features a fantastic array of new material all written and composed by Patty. Produced by Grammy award winner Paul Nelson, who also plays electric, slide and acoustic guitar on the album, to the excited expectations of her ever growing, world-wide fan base.

“Consider This has been featured in numerous magazine reviews, including “Making a Scene,” Blues in The South and charting for 6 weeks on Roots Music Reports top contemporary blues albums as well as charting # 171 for 2021.   Consider This also charted on the  Independent Blues Broadcasters Association’s top 40 in the UK.  This year Patty went back into the The Music Room, West Yarmouth's studios and worked again with Grammy Award winner PAUL NELSON and recorded a Blues Oriented Album featuring an All Start Cast, including 2021 Grammy Award winner BOBBY RUSH as well as many other notables in the music industry.  This album received praise from Frank Rozack,Gold and Platinum Manager and now Patty's publicist, who stated, "Wonderful album.  Whats to say? Just fantastic, fabulous."  It has gone on to chart on Roots Music Report's top 50 Blues Albums and top 50 Contemporary Blues Albums, reaching a high of number 3 as of this writing in early September 2022.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

PATTY TUITE

In the 1980’s she began listening to blues musicians and emulating their styles.

Patty began playing guitar out in public and singing at open mic sessions in Springfield, MA during the early the early 1990’s.  This led to her first well received live recording in 1996 “Live At The Tic Toc.”  

Her first blues-based band, The Patty Tuite Band, formed in 1999, playing throughout the Southern New England region, gaining fans at clubs, functions, and summer concert festivals.  This experience led to her second recording “Girls Night Out” in 2001 and then “Blond and Blue” in 2007.

The band competed in the finals of the Connecticut Blues Society (CTBS) “Blues Challenge” in 2001 and 2005. Due to her showing at the CTBS statewide competitions, two of Patty’s originals were included on the CTBS compilation CDs, “Local Flavor” (2003) and “Blue State Blues” (2007). She also became a judge for the CT Blues Challenge on two occasions.

As well as playing blues from 2007-2017 with two more bands, the Boilermakers and the Percolators, Patty branched out into jazz and played with an eastern CT band, Blue Steam, in 2012. It was a creative and expansive collaboration together, not only playing standards, but reinterpreting popular songs with a jazz bent.

In 2016, Patty created The Patty Tuite Group, playing a mix of originals, blues, jazz and rock favorites.   They played some of her original material live for the Northeast CT Musicians Collaborative which was aired on Spectrum TV in 2018.  The band became very active playing local clubs throughout Southern New England.

In 2021 Patty and her husband Jim formed a new independent record label, Thread City Productions, which the past two releases came out on.

In the summer of 2022, Patty has been sitting on the judges panel for the 2022 Connecticut Blues Society, Blues Challenge.

Since 2004 Patty has enjoyed playing in a children’s band called the Kidsville Kuckoo Revue, led by Bruce John, one of the founders of the famed Shaboo Inn. She thinks it is a fun and rewarding way to get children to appreciate and participate in music-making.

JAN JUNGDEN

Jan Jungden has been performing regionally for over 30 years. She developed her R&B roots with the eclectic “Jake and the Family Jewels” touring the Northeast and playing such clubs as the Bottom Line and Lonestar in NewYork City and Toad's Place in New Haven. In addition to performing regularly with the Patty Tuite Band, Jan currently plays jazz with the Jan Jungden Trio and funk with the band FUSE. Jan has recorded two albums of primarily original material – “Smooth Ride” with the Jan Jungden Trio and “Light it Up” with FUSE Funk Band.

Her early blues influences stem from hearing live concerts by many of the great blues bands at Willimantic’s legendary club, The Shaboo, including Muddy Waters, Freddie King, and Bonnie Raitt. She studied jazz at the University of Bridgeport, and has written music for musical theater. With Patty Tuite, Jan's keyboard versatility keeps things interesting whether she’s playing a funky rhythm on clavinet or or burning up a solo on piano or organ. Then she’ll surprise audiences by soaring on the flute or rockin’ out on the keytar. Jan & Patty have been friends for many years and continue to enjoy collaborating on new, original music.

MARK ANNULI

Mark Annulli, a versatile musician, brings the heartbeat to Patty Tuite's rhythm section as the bassist and backup vocalist since the 2016 season. His distinctive touch resonates on Patty Tuite's 2021 album "Consider This," showcasing his studio prowess.

Beyond this collaboration, Mark's musical journey unfolds through diverse projects with Eastern CT artists since 2008, spanning genres from original acoustic Americana with Horizon Blue to the rock and progressive sounds of Drop City, and the unique alt-Americana stylings of SepiaTone. Explore the rich tapestry of Mark's contributions to the regional music scene.

JUDI THOMPKINS

Judi Thompkins, drumming for the past 55 years. Starting at just 7, I knew I had what it takes. I came into this world pre-wired for drumming. So I fine tuned all thru school and found myself with "Landslide" a local Southern-Rock band. Drumming on and off for the next few decades finally finding my place in 2017 with Patty Tuite Band. Completely feelin' her style of music, I fit right in!

PEGGY ANN CONTOS HARVEY

Peggy Ann Contos Harvey is a multi-instrumentalist and harmony vocalist who brought a new dimension to the sound of the Patty Tuite Band beginning in 2022. Her musical journey began with classical piano and clarinet during the 60's and 70's and drifted through genres of big band music and a 25 year journey fiddling and singing with The Traver Hollow Bluegrass Band.

Peggy met Patty through solo artist Bruce John, who she credits with developing her knowledge and interest in rock music. In addition to more than10 recording projects, Peggy Ann has toured throughout the Northern, Southern and Midwestern USA and Canada, as well as several European tours. She continues to perform with The Hot Flashes , The Shady Creek Bluegrass Band and a dynamic duo with Bruce John and The Music Vault.

Her contribution to the distinctive sound of The Patty Tuite Band is expressed with her characteristic electric violin style, sassy soprano sax, and rock and blues style alto sax and harmonica. "Being able to contribute to the performance of Patty's fabulous original tune repertoire and dynamic cover tunes along with the very talented members of Patty's band is challenging, rewarding and a great pleasure".

JULIA AUTUMN FORD is an international touring artist that has been playing professionally since she was a teenager. After spending her senior year of high school recording her debut self-titled EP, she graduated and immediately went on her first tour. She has toured extensively throughout the USA playing festivals, TV & radio. As a member of Belle of the Fall, an indie folk duo comprised of JAF and Tracy Walton, she released 3 critically acclaimed albums; Earthbound, Rise Up, and The Bending of Light.

JAF has a knack for writing songs that explore the depths of human existence. She can make the heaviest of subjects seem light as a feather. She is most known for her unique and ethereal voice which has been described as "buttered chocolate" and "as if fairies and cotton candy were playing together in a fishbowl".

She currently resides in the northwest corner of CT where she has a private music teaching studio and works at On Deck Sound Studio in Northfield, CT as a videographer and assistant engineer.

Julia will be accompanied by guitarist Jeff Howard.

JEFF HOWARD is a Great Barrington, MA based music educator and professional guitarist. From an early age Jeff immersed himself in live music and professional recording circles. At 14, Jeff joined the successful jam-band The McLovins. The group’s viral fame led Jeff to share the stage with legends such as Buddy Guy and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips. Currently, Jeff enjoys working as a music department head at Miss Halls School in Pittsfield, MA.
