Special Note: We are pleased to have folk artist Claudia Schmidt return to The Packing House! Her 2018 debut with us brought her CD Release of "Hark the Dark", a compilation of classic and original works portraying a reflection and texture of this special time of year. This year Claudia will be joined by Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards, a well established acoustic folk duo from south central Massachusetts who will tease us with new originals to soon be a part of their new CD release this spring. - EC CHAP

Claudia Schmidt has been weaving her musical magic for almost 50 years for audiences of thousands at festivals worldwide to living rooms of rapt listeners, and the response is overwhelming: "I feel like she was singing just to me", "she is a shaper of space and time", "I feel so refreshed and exuberant after seeing and hearing her live". .live performance is her natural habitat. With her multi-octave voice accompanied by 12 string guitar and her most unusual approach to the mountain dulcimer, she navigates mostly original music along with some gems from fellow songwriters to the American Songbook to the traditional treasure trove of songs.

Add the wonderful spoken word spilling forth here and there, and you have a musical and theatrical performance of the highest caliber. She has written award winning scores for theater, run a B&B and a restaurant, done theater, and she brings all this to the stage of the Packing House on Sat. Jan. 25th. A lifetime of wonder and musical exploration on a winter night in Willington.

Claudia will be joined by folk artists Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards.

Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards are clearly inheritors of a timeless legacy, creating music that is both original and evocative of a rich tradition. Blending distinctive voices and a wide range of accompaniment (guitar, harmonica, ukulele, clarinet, penny whistle, electric bass), their songs have been well-received by audiences around the eastern United States and Canada since 2010. Transcending the genre of folk Americana, their music echoes inspiration from traditional folk duos and singer/songwriters like Ian & Sylvia, Kate Wolf and Neil Young – combining beautiful harmonies and a lyrical intensity, while establishing a unique sound of their own.

Their latest release, Live in Manitoba (Nobody’s Favorite Records 2018), is a collection of songs and short introductions from a thirteen date house concert tour of Manitoba, Canada organized through Home Routes / Chemin Chez Nous. This album demonstrates Mark and Raianne’s close connection to their audience, as well as musical versatility. The track list includes selections from both studio albums, covers of Tom Petty’s Walls and Neil Young’s Unknown Legend, and two previously unreleased songs.

Join us for an opportunity to celebrate this collection of original folk music and experience these accomplished musicians in an historic intimate setting! This concert is hosted by the "Eastern Connecticut Center for History, Art, and Performance" (EC-CHAP). Doors 7:00pm / Show 7:30pm. $15.00 Advance / $20.00 Door. Soft drinks and snacks available.
