The Hampton Trio (Beverly Davis, classical guitar; Mark Davis, mandolin; Robert Margo, mandola) performs original music and arrangements for an ensemble of mandolin, mandola, and classical guitar. Inspired by the groundbreaking work of groups such as Trio Nuovo (Japan) and Trio Chamorro (Spain), the Hampton Trio’s goal is to popularize and add to the existing repertoire for this instrumentation.  In addition to their trio repertoire, the group’s programs often feature duets by Beverly and Mark Davis, and solos by Robert Margo.

Classical guitarist Beverly Davis began playing in plucked string ensembles when studying with Reed Desrosier and performing with the Keene State Guitar Orchestra.  While serving as president of the Providence Mandolin Orchestra (PMO) Davis organized numerous international tours and also directed the 2001 International Festival of Mandolins in Providence, Rhode Island.  She performs frequently in a duo with Mark Davis, and also with the PMO and the New American Mandolin Ensemble (NAME).

Mark Davis began his guitar and mandolin studies with Hibbard Perry, and continued his musical training with the eminent German guitarist Siegfried Behrend.  Over the course of his career Davis has performed widely in the United States and abroad, and has made numerous recordings. He is the Music Director of the PMO (1989) and of NAME (2013).  Davis also tours and records in duo with the guitarist Beverly Davis.

Robert Margo is an accomplished performer on classical guitar, mandolin, mandola and renaissance lute. Twicea prize-winner at the national performance competition of the Classical Mandolin Society of America (CMSA), Margo frequently writes articles on mandolin topics for the CMSA’s Mandolin Journal.  Margo is a member of the PMO and of NAME, and he also gives solo concerts on mandolin and mandola.

Reactions to The Hampton Trio:
Thanks a lot for the concert recordings. They are really good and the program is excellent. I love these pieces!” – Julien Martineau (France)

We have listened with great affection to your recording of The Hampton Trio concert. It brings us many beautiful memories. We congratulate you on your courageous work and we encourage you to continue working.” – Pedro Chamorro (Spain)

I saw the live recordings of The Hampton Trio on YouTube.  Your Suite by Lully is wonderful, having an airy and light sound.  I like it while your expression is a bit different from the Trio Nuovo’s.  I hope you will have continuous success in your activities.”  -- Michiko Kataoka, Trio Nuovo and Kataoka Mandolin Institute (Japan)
